Krong, DeRocco Win 20th Mule Haul

Jake Krong, 19, of Amsterdam, made it two club races in a row, winning the Fulmont Roadrunners’ 20th annual Mule Haul 8K foot race held June 15 in Fort Hunter. This was on the heels of his win at the club’s 17th Winter Wimp 4.4 miler in January.

The Colgate University runner’s winning time was 26:25, almost two minutes ahead of second-place finisher Mark McKenzie, 40, of Ballston Spa, who was first master. Last year’s winner Derek Stern, 32, of Ann Arbor, Mich., came in third.

For the women, Kim DeRocco, 32, of Amsterdam, was an easy winner in 32:15, followed by Daniele Cherniak, 41, of Cohoes, and Theresa Stern, 33, also Ann Arbor, in third. Daniele captured first-master honors for the women.

There were a total of 174 finishers—117 men and 57 women—in this year’s race, which enjoyed near-perfect weather conditions. Click for full race results.
