  • High School Runner-of-Year Awards Go to Broadalbin-Perth Duo.  Gina Cristaldi and Andrew Goodspeed, both from Broadalbin-Perth High School, have been selected as winners of the Fulmont Roadrunners Club’s annual Cross-Country Runner of the Year Awards honoring 2007’s top male and female XC runners in Fulton and Montgomery County high schools. For their achievements, the athletes received specially engraved walnut plaques at the club’s annual Winter Wimp foot race held earlier this month in Hagaman.  (Click for the full story and photo.)
  • Winter Wimp 2008 A Big Success.  By all measures, this year’s 22nd annual Winter Wimp was another big success.  The weather was cooperative—temperatures in the 40s with no precipitation, white or otherwise—and there was an excellent turnout—a total of 190 runners, second only to last year’s record field. (Click for 2.2 Mile  or 4.4 Mile results and to view a collection of race-day photos by Brian Teague.)  The competition also was outstanding, with another course record for men in the 4.4-mile race.  (Click for the full story.)

  • 2008 Grand Prix races selected.  Click the Grand Prix button to your left to see the 14 races selected for the 2008 competition.  You’ll note that there are a couple of new entries, including the Lexington Run 5K, held in Johnstown in the spring, the Clover Combo Classic 8K at the Mule Haul site in Fort Hunter in September and the Great Sacandaga Foot Race, a 10K in Northville in early November.  Also new for 2008:  In addition to the overall results of the Grand Prix races, we will report the GP point winners for each race, as well as year-to-date GP totals, right here on the website.  This will be in addition to the printed results in the newsletter.  We’ll attempt to post these results soon after the conclusion of each GP race.
  • Mileage Challenge Debuts on Web.  By popular demand, the club’s Mileage Challenge, a for-members-only program designed to promote running and other healthful aerobic activities, has been given its own place on our website. Just click the Mileage Challenge button to your left to gain access.  The Mileage Challenge page includes an application—you must apply to participate—as well as quarterly sheets for keeping track of your mileage.  In addition, it will report the accumulated miles for the year of all participants on a list updated quarterly and as new results are received.  We hope you like this new feature on the site.
  • Apparel Page Updated.  There’s a brand new collection of official FMRRC wearing apparel.  To check it out, click on the Club Apparel button to your left.
  • Mule Haul 24 Is Bigger and Better.  “It just keeps getting bigger and better” was the assessment of one Mule Haul enthusiast commenting on the club’s 24th annual Father’s Day race held June 17.  The 2007 event boasted a record number of finishers—30 more than last year and three more than ever before—and featured professional-quality music and sound and fully computerized timing and results, both Mule Haul firsts. The sound was by Brian DeBraccio (who also ran the race, finishing 15th overall), and the timing and results were by the crack team of Sharon and Chet Boehlke, Erle Daniels, and Kathy Sullivan.  And, of course, there were the usual crowd-pleasing hot dogs with all the fixins’ served to all runners and their families by the friendly folks from the Hot Dog Hut Cafe, along with the father-son and father-daughter team events in honor of the dads whose day it was and the free races for the kids, with goody bags and medals for all. In the main event of the day, the 8-kilometer part road/part trail race, Nicholas Conway, 32, of Albany was first of the 233 finishers with a time of 25 minutes and 47 seconds, and Emily Bryans, 39, of Schenectady paced the 85 women with a 30:04 finish, good for 12th overall.  Second and third for the men went to Andy Allstadt, 24, of Endicott, N.Y., and Chuck Terry, 25, of Albany, while Elizabeth Paddock, 26, of Albany and Dana Peterson, 36, of Voorheesville were second and third for the women.  Click for complete results of the race, along with age-group and team award winners. Thanks all around...to the sponsors, to all of the runners and families who took part, and to third-year race director Jim Moore and the legion of volunteers coordinated by Marion Bayly who “made it all happen.“
  • Petty and Burroughs Win Dern Scholarships for 2007. Patrick Petty of Fort Plain and Jane Burroughs of Amsterdam have been named winners of the Fulmont Roadrunners Club’s 2007 James R. Dern Memorial Scholarships.  The athletes received their $500 awards in ceremonies following the club’s 2007 Mule Haul road race. Click for the complete story and a photo.

  • Saturday Runs Looking for somebody to run with on Saturday mornings? Come to the McDonald's Restaurant on Route 30 in Amsterdam. On almost any Saturday morning year-round you'll find Fulmont Roadrunners running 4 or 8 miles (and sometimes more) at varying paces, starting out at 8:00 a.m. After the running, most folks give McDonald's the nod for refreshments and war stories (about running, of course).
