Start of 2010 Winter Wimp

  • Spring Cleaning is Coming! On Saturday April 24th FMRRC will have its semiannual cleanup on Maple Avenue Extension between Midline Road and Route 30 in Amsterdam.  Volunteers will meet at Burger King on Route 30 in Amsterdam at 8 AM for a group run - various distances and paces - and afterwards pick up Maple Avenue and then have breakfast at a local restaurant.  All volunteers are welcome, so join us for the spring cleanup!
  • Updated email addresses needed - Our Volunteers Committee chairwoman, Jane Constantine, needs to update her email list.  If  you haven't received an email from her in the last month, please email Jane Constantine
  • The Capital District YMCA is once again putting on a 5K race series this year.  Dr. Tim Maggs is serving as chairman for this series, and all proceeds go to a scholarship fund for young people in need throughout our area.  You can read the story here and find out how to race and benefit our community.
  • To see a collage of FMRRC Winter Wimp and Polar Cap runners go here. A big tip of the hat goes to Brian Teague of Fateague Fotos for putting them together.  If you want a picture of runners in action at local races, there is no bettter source.
  • The Polar Cap Results are in - for the results click HERE.
  • 2009 Cross Country Winners received awards and recognition at this year's Winter Wimp.  For the story and photo click here.
  • The official story of the 2010 Winter Wimp can be found here.
  • The latest Mileage Challenge numbers are up - see what you  and fellow runners are up to. Follow the Mileage Challenge link or for the clicking impaired click here.   All participants who have not yet reported their final totals for 2009 are asked to do so as soon as possible to receive certificates and close 2009.
  • Winter Wimp photos are now available - courtesy of Brian Teague and Fateague Fotos.  To see the gallery click here.  The Winter Wimp race start photo (above) and others were taken by Brian, who shows up and takes excellent pictures at FMRRC events.  If you're looking to get something for that special runner, a quality photograph of them in action always works.
  • More Winter Wimp facts and figures. The overall male winner in the 4.4 mile distance (his fourth win in the last five years) was Brendan Devine with a time of 23:31.  The overalll female winner in the 4.4 mile distance was Kellie Lawton with a time of  30:39. The overall male winner in the 2.2 mile distance was Ian Thane with a time of 12:52 and the overall female winner in the 2.2 mile distance was Kimberly Geniti with a time of 15:29. There were 142 runners in the 4.4 mile distance and 67 in the 2.2 mile distance for a total of 209.  FMRRC runners acounted for 73 of the finishers.  There were 122 male runners (58%), 87 female runners (42%), and 100% were more than a little touched to be out running.
  • The 2010 Winter Wimp is IN THE BOOKS! Congratulations to all the hardy popsicles who braved one of the C-C-C-C-Coldest races in recent memory.  They should be thawing out just in time for the 2011 Wimp!  A very large "THANK YOU" goes to the phalanx of volunteers who made all the preparations and marshaled the race in the usual superlative manner.  A fine apres-run feast was provided, with savory soups furnished by Adams Soup Company and Sport Island Pub, and scrumptious pizza provided by Cronies, Crystal Ristorante, Goodfellas Pizzeria, Kool Dipper, Napoli's, and Tony's Pizzeria. For the results, click HERE.
  • The RoadRunners Club of America (RRCA) website has undergone a major upgrade.  As a result, the RRCA news ticker and the Footnotes magazine link that were on this page are inoperative, so they have been removed.  A link to the new version of the RRCA magazine, Club Running, is posted here: Club Running
  • New feature on the website - a race results page has been added to the website - see the links on the left hand side of each page.  Here you'll find results for all Grand Prix and other races, including some results you probably won't find elsewhere.   If anyone out in the running community has race results or an upcoming race they'd like to have added to the race results or race calender, or comments or sugggestions about the website, please email Bill Platt .
  • Grand Prix News - the 2010 Grand Prix race schedule has been set.  There are a few new races on the schedule - for all the details click here.  The first two races on the schedule,  the Winter Wimp and Polar Cap Run, have applications online.
  • Pizza Bash recap - the 2009 Pizza Bash is now in the history books.  Club offficers for the coming year were nominated, and awards were given out.  Congratulations to Matt Van Slyke and Laura Milak, winners of the overall Grand Prix competition. Congratulations to Meghan Davey (Rookie of the Year), Sarah Dzikowicz (Volunteer of the Year), Rob and Shirley Hudyncia (Comebacks of the Year), and congratulations squared to George Freeman (Special Achievement of the Year and the Presidents Award). And a special "THANK YOU" goes to retiring officers - Joyce Poulin (President), Lorrie Sargalis (Vice-President), and Mandy Ferguson (Secretary), for the years spent toiling in the trenches to help make FMRRC what it is today.  You will be missed! And yes, we have the pictures! Click here for a slideshow.
  • Looking for someone to run with on Saturday mornings?  Come to the Burger King Restaraunt on Route 30 in Amsterdam. That's now been adopted as the official meeting place following the recent closing of  McDonalds up the road.  On almost any Saturday morning year-round you'll find Fulmont Roadrunners running four or eight miles (and sometimes more) at varing paces, starting out at 8 AM. There's also a walking group.  After the running/walking, most folks stop in at Burger King for refreshments and war stories (about their chosen sport, of course)
